Monday B Meet -- INTRASQUAD Meet (HOME)
Highlands
Start: 5:30 PM
Warm-up: 5:00 PM
End: 9:00 PM
Arrive no later than 4:45pm for warm-ups. Warm-ups will run from 5 - 5:20. Meet will start at 5:30. We will need more than the normal number of volunteers to run this meet because there is no opposing team with whom to split the volunteer jobs. Swimmers may choose two events plus a free relay. In order to ensure a positive experience for all of our swimmers, if the coaches determine that a swimmer cannot technically and accurately perform the stroke and may, therefore, get disqualified, they will not swim the event at a B meet. The coaches will work with swimmers on their technique in practice. This prevents swimmers who are learning new strokes from the negative experience of disqualification until the swimmer is ready. 2024 TIME TRIALS (HOME)
Highlands
Start: 7:30 AM
End: 1:00 PM
What are Time Trials? **Time Trials is for General Swim Team Members only. Whompers Group does not participate in Time Trials. Time Trials are an opportunity for swimmers to get times in as many strokes as they can in a meet-like setting. Swimmers are encouraged to swim all four strokes and may be asked to swim a stroke that they do not consider their favorite. Coaches would like to see times of their swimmers when they swim the different strokes. HOWEVER, swimmers must have demonstrated in practice proficiency in a stroke in order to be allowed to compete in that stroke at time trials. We do not want swimmers getting disqualified and starting the summer season feeling discouraged. All teams in the NVSL (Northern Virginia Swimming League) have Time Trials about a week or two after practice begins and before the first Meet. There is no scoring in Time Trials. The only swimmers attending Time Trials are Highlands swimmers. Time Trials are held in the competition pool at Highlands. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR SWIMMERS TO OBTAIN TIMES IN AS MANY EVENTS AS POSSIBLE THAT THEY ARE LEGAL IN PRIOR TO OUR FIRST MEET. Where do Swimmers go? Swimmers will be asked to join their fellow teammates up on the grassy area above the competition pool. They will be supervised by our coaches. Parents are encouraged to help Time, volunteer with merchandise and to help with the family luncheon as opposed to joining their children up in the grassy area. The swimmers will be monitored by our coaches. What should swimmers wear? Swimmers should wear their team suit if they have one or other appropriate racing style suit. For the boys, this means no board shorts or trunks. Instead either jammer or brief style suits. For the girls a racing style one piece suit. All swimmers should wear swim caps and proper fitting goggles. |
